We are proud of our team of nursing and support staff here at Merlin, and wanted to dedicate a page of this website to highlight their jobs and to ensure they don’t go unnoticed!
The nursing staff throughout our three practices are a mixture of fully qualified veterinary nurses, veterinary nurses in training and animal care assistants, who all smooth the day to day workings of a busy veterinary practice, and without whom, veterinary work couldn’t carry on. Together with a full complement of support staff (receptionists and office staff) Merlin can provide an efficient and caring service to our clients and animals.
Veterinary Nurses provide care to animals ranging from intensive care in the hospital, to anaesthesia monitoring in the operating theatres, and to animals receiving healthchecks in the consulting rooms. Their day to day work can vary widely, sometimes going out to farms or stables assisting vets, sometimes helping out in reception or the office, but mainly running the small animal (pet) hospital and kennel areas within the practices.
Galashiels, in particular, is a recognised Veterinary Nurse Training Practice, and therefore the Head Nurse and other experienced qualified nurses are responsible for training nursing students. The practice accepts students from various colleges, and each student is trained in all aspects of the care and welfare of small animals. Our quality of veterinary care aims to be of the highest standard in order for the nursing students to complete their courses successfully.
If you have any questions regarding the care of your pet, please remember to ask our nurses or reception staff, who will aim to provide knowledgeable and sensitive advice.
