Neutering and Vaccination

CASTRATION (Male)
We recommend the following;
Cats - 5-6 months of age.
Dogs - From 6 months of age.
Appointments are usually required for a 4 day post op wound check + 10 day stitch removal. (if external stitches are used). Cats do not have stitches placed routinely.

SPAYING (Female)
Cats - From 6 months of age.
Dogs - From 6 months of age. It is usual to wait for 2-3 months after a season has finished so hormone levels are minimal. Spaying can be carried out prior to the first season if circumstances require it.

Some dogs may need to be hospitalised overnight after the operation, your practice will advise you of their usual routine .
Follow up appointments are required for a wound check at 4 days post op, and again for stitch removal at 10days. (Sometimes only dissolving stitches are used, so you will be advised of this at collection.)

VACCINATION
Cats - 1st from 9 weeks of age,
2nd, 3 weeks later at 12 weeks of age.
Cats are routinely vaccinated against cat flu and enteritis, with an extra of feline leukaemia if felt necessary by the Vet.
Annual vaccinations are then required. Dogs - 1st from 8 weeks of age, 2nd, 2-4 weeks later at 10-12 weeks of age. (DHPPi + L - Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Para- influenza + Leptospirosis.) Annual vaccinations are then required.

WORMING
Routine deworming should be carried out every 3 months with a product such as Drontal Plus for Dogs or Profender/Drontal Cat for cats. Discuss with your Vet. at routine vaccinations to find out if any additional treatments are necessary.
